October President’s PRoclaimer Message

By FPRA Orlando President Valerie Moses, MBA

For most people, the month of October is synonymous with pumpkin spice lattes, Halloween décor and fall festivals on the weekends. However, for FPRA members all across the state, October is a time for something even more exciting: membership renewal season.

The deadline to renew your FPRA membership is October 31. You may have seen a lot of posts on your newsfeed lately about membership renewal, but missing that renewal deadline might be even spookier than some of the costumes we will see this year.

All fall-related jokes aside, I encourage you to renew your membership if you haven’t done so already. The Florida Public Relations Association is known for its statewide network and cutting-edge professional development, but for many of our members, the association means so much more. Over the years, FPRA has introduced me to lifelong friends, taught me to advocate for myself and grow as a leader, and given me a sense of belonging among practitioners that I haven’t experienced anywhere else.

The Orlando Area Chapter has an incredible year ahead of us as we plan innovative programming, behind-the-scenes experiences and ways to create an impact in our community and beyond. With our membership renewal deadline just two weeks away, here are a few announcements to keep top of mind:

  • When you renew your membership by October 31, you’ll be entered to win some fabulous prizes, including gift cards to Marlow’s Tavern, a $150 Rosen Hotels dining experience, a pair of West Club Field Level tickets to one Orlando Pride home game, and a “passport” for free admission to chapter events all year long. (This passport does not include tickets to Media Mashup or Image Awards.)

  • For those in need of financial support to offset the cost of membership, we are offering several scholarships for new and returning members. We are also incredibly grateful to Eleven 11 Communications for sponsoring our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Scholarship for new or returning members from underrepresented groups. Learn more and submit your application by Monday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. to be considered.

  • Our chapter is hosting a FREE happy hour mixer on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Broken Strings Brewery from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This event is open to new, returning and prospective members, and all attendees receive one complimentary beverage courtesy of the chapter. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet other local PR pros and get to know our board members, who will be available to answer questions about membership. Register here.

If you want to learn more about the benefits of membership – or simply have questions about the organization – feel free to reach out to me or to any of our board members and we’ll be happy to assist. Thank you for everything you do to make the FPRA Orlando Area Chapter a great one.
